Why does Refractive index analysis is not popular ?

Refractive index is a basic property of a compound some thing like boiling point, melting point and density. Eventhough variety of instruments are available in market, it needs are not much.

I think, one of the reason is it is difficult to differentiate pure compound from the mixture using this technique. It is necessary to control, the variations like wavelength of the radiation, temperature, and concentration of analyte.
