Why does guide-seq require custom Read 2 and index 1 primers?

I am trying to understand why the guide seq protocol requires custom read 2 and index 1 primers for sequencing on the MiSeq platform. From my understanding of the library prep method, if the P7 adapter was modified to be a standard P7 adapter, wouldnt it be possible to use any illumina instrument without customization?
