I think that Dafnis' question and answer aim at elevating this interesting policy issue. I do not think that guys like Donald Trump should be involved in a rather academic, although with political extensions, discussion. I have not an expertise on labor productivity and I am wondering if there are some research papers on this question. In any case, TFP -the envelope of several productivity aspects labor included- is a very complicated issue with sharp economic, financial, cultural, political, and technological dimensions. Even measurement issues should be taken into account. In addition I am wondering about the distribution effects of such kind of policy.

I have been working at a University in Finland. Everyday after 16:01pm all corridors are empty and there is no single Finnish employee who works. Also in Saturdays and Sundays. How can Finnish economy be improved? Do you really think by giving to the government 4 more unpaid working days this will improve productivity in real terms? One can ask Finnish employees if they want to produce something more in government sector. Private sector may be different. Governmental services in Finland are very much crowded with employees. Do you think they can increase their productivity by calculations? One should investigate the attitude of employees towards productivity. Iam sorry that I tell you the real truth.
