I see political will to deal with the consequences of social, economic, and environmental problems as shown by the negociations on global warming/climate change and global discussion by FAO on afforestation, reforestation, and mitigation , but the political will to deal with the causes is not there yet. I think that this is the case because decision makers in general think that we still have time to go a little further pushing bubble earth. What do you think.
I believe the main and rather obvious reason is that politicians are not free in their decision making due to their close connections to the industry. There are numerous examples of decisions that don't even make economical sense in the long run but are accepted due to either creating jobs or guaranteeing limited growth - not only in deforestation. Our economical system is forced to grow as a result of interest rates. The main reason why economical growth is needed is to pay the interest which is rising globally. Dear Andreas, thank you for sharing views. Yes, industry lobbying can make the space of decision-maker tight. And change as new consequences pile up faster than the mitigated consequences always should be expected to come albeit not as fast as desired or needed.
Hence I see the framing critical complex issues in a way that can be expressed in simpler to undertand terms with non-academic people in mind as essencial to widen the space connecting decision makers and powerful interests by making the actions that need to be taken to deal with causes and /ortheir consequences easier to see.
For example, I have always been fascinated with the clash between privatization and nationalization and how complex the discourse looks and decided to frame it backwards and this is what I found:
