First of all it is useful for his searching place in some university. He has to publish papers in that case. Widely, for people in education process his knowledge and experience are connection with practice. Personal ambitions are very important too.

but there is another side - especially if you are the only author (making clear this reflects YOUR work/knowledge): publications might be a plus when applying for another job - some other way to demonstrate your knowledge, skills etc.
the publication helps to show-case the competency and expertise of both employee as well as employer...especially for employee, he / she does't need to tell industry people that they have certain skills and expertise when they have publication related to those skills and expertise....these publications serves like endorsements for employees...for employer it helps to enhance marketing of their products / competency / expertise...
