There is an opinion that being connected to the image of yourself on the screen is much more important to its vitality than to possess it. That is - I'm on the screen, so I exist. The condition of being connected to your own selfie is proof of life in the world of a winning visual image. And person have to prove it regularly.

I feel people need to validate themselves in some way. All of us. Some people try to do this with selfies ("hey, I am here and I do look awesome, I am enjoying the moment"). I believe you are right in that the old "I think, therefore I am" can be seen as "Selfie, therefore I am". Now, to be fair, not all selfies are taken by narcissistic people. Best wishes
