I think, in India very few labs/ institutes are focusing on research. Is it true? Why, many students are committing suicides in last decades? Why the same students perform well in USA, Germany etc.
I am not an Indian. Neither I'm I very glued to the underneath cause of suicide among students. Yet, I feel that this assertion is not wholly justified. India has high educational standards like any other country. The high competition for excellence may drive some students to suicide. But the structure in India are robust.
Dickson, you are correct. However, some of my relatives who were struggling to do even graduation here in India did very well in US. They could go there because of the help ( financial aid) they received from their relatives.
agreed but still i would say, as far as research is concerned we are still lagging behind and not only facilities but many other factors are responsible like work culture etc etc. ......
It is bitter truth that our students always perform better in foreign country. This is happening because of huge differences of work culture, research environment, financial constraints, jobs opportunity and Ofcourse facility.
It's not bitter truth but I see it as better opportunity as the minds are same , one of the solution can be cooperation as the problem of facility can be easily sorted out by cooperation.
Our educational and research institutes become political hunt where instead of deapth research flattering and sycopheny is nurtured. These peoples get all type of benifit than hard working people.
In India it is possible to organize International Conferences in a building with several sall and many Sections. This gives you the possibility of more direct contact with your foreign colleagues
The same happens in the most of developing countries, that is maybe due to:
•There are limited resources to support research projects because sources of funding are so scarce.
•Time to devote to research is difficult to find because people who teach at the university level in developing countries usually have several jobs.
•Access to journals, either by internet or in print, is limited. The cost of subscriptions to journals makes them beyond the reach of the budgets of both individual professionals and university libraries.
•Universities in many developing countries lack the structure of ethical review committees.
When I was studying in the USA; Indian students were very brilliant and very friendly. From my own experiences; foreign students perform better in the USA or Australia or Europe because life is more enjoyable in campus and in the city and most problems are easily solved.
Lack of facilities, funds , poor infrastructure, poor selection criteria of candidates , non interest of government in research etc are some reasons for the researchers to move abroad.
I want to remind the famous saying "Who wants to achieve a result in science, he is looking ways for solutions, and who does not want, he is looking for reasons that prevent to get this result". I want to ask: When you really want to drink water, will you look for the reasons for the lack of water or will you look for a way to quench your thirst? Why, in this case, you will in any case find a way to quench your thirst, otherwise you will die. I am of the opinion that there are no desperate situations, any problem can be solved. For this, it is necessary to change consciousness and correctly understand the situation. Then you need to find the best solution for your problem. We must also take into account the fact that the level of education falls sharply all over the world and all the hope is only for oneself to get the necessary knowledge from the Internet. To do this, we need to show motivation and patience to achieve this goal. If you create a good intellectual product (for example, as a program in a programming language) and this product will solve problems that are interesting to people, then it does not matter in what country you live, even at the North Pole. This product will always be in demand regardless of the country where you live. It is a complete illusion that a good education can be obtained in the West in civilized countries. With the Internet you can always extract all the necessary knowledge and then apply. Thus, motivation, patience and hard work can solve the set goals. I think so.
Few reasons for performing better in other countries by the Indians are, better availability of resources, lots of funds, better evaluation, appreciation, recognition and motivation.
In my opinion, the working environment is the prime reason. If you are assured an environment on par with the USA or Australia in terms of resources, opportunities, scientific freedom, fair play in appointments, promotions, awards and recognition devoid of extraneous considerations, I am sure most scientist will work hard and come out with good results.
