One of my paper is under major revision in npg journal" Cell death discovery". As it is a new journal launched in 2015, CDD do not have impact factor. But, I am confused whether to go ahead with this journal or not. To get recruited in Indian universities or Institutes, we need API scores, and this is only possible with journals listed in UGC.
On the other hand, the APC of this journal is high, and waiver is not allowed. Kindly help me to take decision.
If you are thinking in terms of your career it is better to publish in UGC listed journals. In my opinion not all UGC listed journals are good. Some of them do not publish without processing fees. So be selective and go for the good ones.
You are publishing in NPG, and is under major revision, why are you giving it a second thought? Paper that are published in NPG journals have high rejection ratio, and solely relies on quality. I think the API is solely because they are following an OA model. I also believe, the IF will be as high as good PR journals in a few years time. The choice is only yours, what you want to do.
I think you have chosen excellent journal to publish your work. Therefore I would suggest you to proceed with the same journal. The UGC approved journal list is not final. In near future this newly launched quality journal can also be included in the list.
This is one of my dream to get my paper published in Nature or NPG. Here, I am not thinking too much for APC. But, what if I will try some other journal like PLOS ONE, Lancet, or CELL having IF, listed in UGC and with no APC requirement.
if it is your dream then why are you thinking to much, just go ahead, that's it.
Shivani, its your paper and if you are willing to publish it in an UGC approved journal then you are free to publish the same in any journal of your choice.
Some people think only terms of their carrier. Some do not think too much about their career. I think, at least in this case, not to think too much about your career and try to resubmit the MS after fulfilling the queries of the reviewers at the earliest. Wish that your dream comes true!
If you think about API score perspective then better move with UGC Refereed Journals. Else better you will proceed with the same journal.
It is never difficult to fulfill minimum API score that is needed for CAS. After that we have our choice; but if APC is not your concern then get your paper published in any scopus/wos journal.

CD discovery is a reputed journal no doubt. We have a recent publication in it. I think UGC journal listing criteria is a generalized issue and in a tug of war state between stringency and simplification. According to me no single criteria for any npg journal is enough. I tried to draw the attention of UGC via mail once with this specific example - although no response. Therefore I believe having publication in this journal is definitely worthy unless having immediate requirement of impact factor for scoring. Thomson Reuters needs certain years of incubation period to index journal (SCI) for impact factor. This journal should also get impact factor and history shows CDD journals (Cd diff ~ 8 and cd disease ~ 5) and other nature journals usually get good impact factor at beginning only. You may think in this way.
I think CDD is fine...you can publish...NPG is a renowned publication house and therefore everybody will recognise your work...
all SCOPUS listed journals are now considered as UGC listed journals. So publish in scopus listed journals
The official impact will release in 2020 however according to the journal resources impact factor will be around 3.0 for this journal (from twitter account of CDDPRESS).
