Does anyone know why feminists picked this art movement for their propaganda?

Women became more independent, had disposable income and access to higher education especially art academies. At the same time, however, (mostly male) Art Nouveau artists and designers depicted women in highly idealized, feminine, and seductive forms. Slender, attractive - and often nude - women with flowing hair were frequently depicted in Art Nouveau jewelry, paintings, ornaments, and prints.
Advertising also played an influential role in how women were perceived publicly back then, because - just like today - the female body was used to sell lifestyle and products to consumers.
Thus, one could also see the observations you mention as a backlash to these phenomena. As a rebellion against the male-dominated gaze.
