Dear all,
When decreasing the diameter of nano particles the pressure drop increases [1]. Is this because as the diameter decreases the particles penetrate the fluid better and forming more viscous fluid leading to increase the pressure drop or there 's another reason?

I think this may be not a general conclusion. you may need a review work to see what parameters are effective.

The nano-particles should be well mixed with the fluid via any means like ultrasonication.
I think if the diameter of nano particles decreases , keeping in mind that the mass of added particles is the same in other cases, so the contact surface area between them and fluid layers are going to increase leading to more friction and in turn more pressure drop.
Some studies suggest nano-particles reduce skin friction particularly in turbulent flows. see for example the attached file.
