The perceived stagnation in the civil engineering curriculum in India over the past decades can be attributed to a combination of factors. Bureaucratic hurdles and slow decision-making processes in educational institutions can make it challenging to swiftly implement curriculum updates. Civil engineering, deeply rooted in classical principles, tends to prioritize traditional knowledge, potentially resisting rapid changes. A limited collaboration between academia and industry can hinder the incorporation of real-world practices and modern technologies into the curriculum. Resource constraints, including faculty training and materials development, can also impede updates, as can adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards. Despite these challenges, efforts to modernize civil engineering education in India have been initiated by bodies like the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and universities, but the full implementation of these changes may take time to materialize and disseminate across all institutions.
