Why chalcone product is gummy after base catalyzed Claisen Schmidt condensation ?

I am synthesizing chalcone derivatives using 0.5ml 15M NaOH catalyzed Claisen Schmidt condensation. My product is all gummy. Any suggestions on how to resolve?
