We know how to attract them, how to drive them to the ground, why can't we store them? Batteries are too weak to hold it on? A too big diode should be needed to transform it in electricity?
Interesting question. Ignoring the previous two comments (discussing the meaning of the word "strike"), I think it comes down to practicality.
Batteries certainly are not suitable. Supercapacitors of the future may well be. It comes down to problems involved with transferring and storing such a huge amount of charge in such a small period of time .
