When studying TiO2 materials, the anatase phase and the brookite phase are two pseudo-stable phases. At high temperatures, both phases will turn into the rutile phase. But I do not know why at nano size, TiO2NPs materials cannot exist brookite phase?

It may be due to temperature, as for I know the brookite synthesis is done at low temperature, while at higher temperatures it ll produce anatase or rutile phase of TiO2.
Another reason for its nonexistence as explained by Paola et al 2013, is the ratio of Dc and Db. If grain size Dc is greater than brookite size Db then it ll convert into rutile directly and if Dc > than Db then conversion shall be via anatase and then to rutile.

As far as I know, at 400 degrees C it is suitable to create TiO2 NPs with 80% anatase and 20% rutile. Raising the temperature even more, no Brookite appeared.

I made TiO2 from TiCl4 by sol-gel method and examined it at temperatures of 300, 400, 500, and 600 degrees Celsius. Everything is the same as your research. Now I am researching composites with TiO2 such as Graphene Oxide and Silver.

BTW currently, am working on Graphene Quantum dots decoration on TiO2, results so far are very promising with GQDs with respect to its activity against azo dyes. Am waiting for some characterization results to relate it with the activity.
