Researchers write and review for free, yet pay huge APCs to publish while universities buy back access to their own scholars’ work. Isn’t it time universities reclaimed their role as publishers, invested in their own journals, and gave them priority in promotion and tenure? If knowledge is for the public good, then universities must lead the change not corporations.
