We often observe a substantial difference in citation numbers between ResearchGate (RG) and Google Scholar (GS) for the same author. What factors influence this difference? Which database is the most reliable in terms of citations?
Both platforms use different sets of full texts of publications and different algorithms to automatically search for citations. Very often GS finds more citations than RG, but not always.
