Following the literature on chemical and biochemical sensors and lab-on-chip devices which have already passed the 10,000 mark (cumulative) one wonders, why so few are commercially available despite excellent published merits. Even validations of robust low-cost sensors have been described. Thus the question arises, what de-motivates an entrepreneur from earning revenues from a large market for single analyte measurements? Or is it the missing trust in those published statements?
