I am running Active Carbon using 0.2M KMnO4 solution with 2.5g of soil, shaking by hand for 2 mins and letting stand for 10 mins. I am using a Cary 60 spec. When I use the formula by Weil et al. (2003) I change the weight from 5g to 2.5g and my active carbon values jump past my limit of 648 from the National Soil Lab standard. Does anyone have any suggestion on what I can do to correct this? Alter shaking time? When I use the 5 g as called for, my reading still comes out above the standard and the procedure says to rerun with the 2.5g. I am following a procedure that says to decrease the amount from 5g to 2.5g if I hae zero absorbance.
