I am working on GMA/EGDMA polyHIPEs. I have used cyclohexane as a porogen to achieve high surface area. I chose Cyclohexane as it was used in several references for GMA/EGDMA and they have got better results with this solvent.
The problem I have with using Cyclohexane is that my system didn’t cure with the addition of Cyclohexane. The recipe I am using is as following:
GMA (0.51 mL), EGDMA (0.34 mL), PEO-PPO-PEO as surfactant(0.2), DMPA (40 mg) + Cyclohexane(0.85 mL) in oil phase and aqueous CaCl2.2H2O solution (1.3 wt %) in water phase.
I am completely confused and I cannot find the reason for not curing of HIPE in the presence of Cyclohexane.

Your problem is not in cyclohexane. It has little effect on the system. The problem PEO-PPO-PEO. It poor emulsifier in this system. Try to replace it on the other, for example, ionic surfactants.

What kind of irradiation do you use. You might systematically remove the compounds to find the reason. It is also possible to increase the initiator content.
