As per BCS theory, electrons occupying states close to Fermi level (within ±Δ with 2Δ being the energy gap) form Cooper pairs. What happens to those electrons which occupy states of lower energies. Why don't these electrons form Cooper pairs? If they do not. The situation is not very clear. In what way these electrons differ from those falling near Fermi level.
