There is a tremendous essay that explains the troubling exclusions of "fat" and "obese" peoples by Kathryn Hicks and Sharon Stanley.
In their essay, Hicks and Stanley detail how so-called fat or obese peoples are systematically and structurally excluded from full citizenship in, particularly, the "United States". Of course, this problematic dynamic appears in many other countries as well around the globe.
Part of what Hicks and Stanley's argument leads me to think of, however, is the other peoples who are rendered vulnerable by the world's "strongest democracies". I think, in particular, of indigenous peoples such as the Sami Nations or Indigenous Nations in so-called "Canada" or "Australia" (remember, these are colonial names!).
Who, in your esteem, do you consider to be vulnerable and marginalized in what you consider to be the world's strongest democracies? And, why, in your opinion, is this a problem?
