Some good teachers teach the good things and uplift the students' lives. On the other hand, bad teachers teach the bad things and down the students' lives.
One point is that Good teachers teach the Good Professionals for Good Life.
On the other hand, Bad teachers teach the Bad Professionals for Bad Life.
Anyway, the role of the teacher is never be replaced. In our country, Good teachers are regarded by the respected role as the parents.
Most of the people tell that the person who teaches in the classroom is the teacher.
On the other hand, the parents teach their babies and children before they go to the school (As an example, how can eat, how can drink, how can wear,...)
Some people also tell that their teachers are not humans like the books, the educational videos, websites, etc.
I possess many educational qualifications in the different areas like Engineering & Technology,Business Administration and Law. From UG to PhD. Imagine how many teachers must have taught me. Not all but few teachers are still in my mind. Though I am a teacher, I am still imitating their styles.
The teachers have not only taught me the academic subjects but have taught me the lessons of life. I was made Hero by saying you have lots of talent - you can be a good debator, your dialogue delivery is powerful you can play any type of dramma, you can sing song, you are a good player, you run very fast - you should join NCC and today whatever I acquire, are all their BIG INSPIRATION and MOTIVATION.
My PhD Guide was extremely noble I learnt nobility from him. He made me humble. All these teachers have given me their valuable time. Today as I believe Students love me but that is all because of my teachers that I am getting that respect.
A teacher is a selfless noble person whose goal is to see the sharp growth curve of his students. A great teacher ensures all faceted growth of his students. He is always there with the students - in happiness and agony too. He works hard for his students without taking care his or her own life without any personal motive. Very few who are fortunate get such good teachers!!

A teacher is akin to the parent of a child who helps him to walk and be independent to undertake any (research) study more independently having inculcated the basic traits and the requisite knowledge to bring it to logical conclusion. The guidance to look for the best possible solution, proper time-management and the willingness to learn and absorb new aspects. A teacher passes the 'baton' of learning, like a long distance 'relay' and to stress the fact that he has also been a learner throughout his life. In addition the attitude to work hard and the passion could also be provided by the Teacher.
He is the one that devote himself to proud of you as if you become his son .

You are right, but I'd like to add something, in your post there was a spot light on a teacher and his effort(s) and this effort has been done only for studying years for example in university student life, right? so What about a father (permanent teacher) who starting his humanitarian, social, educational, financial, ethical, .....etc activities before his son birth till his death?? It is totally true to describe father not only as a teacher but as a SCHOOL or UNIVERSITY.
Personally, my unique teacher is MY FATHER.

Dear Aung, I have been developing experience in university education for 5 years, the same ones that have been very satisfactory for my personal development. However, I have noticed that over the years, among colleagues, we talk about how little interest students have in learning, our perception is that they are arriving with less bases from lower levels.
Apparently we (the teachers) try to blame the lower educational processes (school and family values inclusive), however, as a hypothesis of questioning I have raised:
1. Is the world really valuing digital knowledge? That is, technologies provide us with access to a lot of information, but: how are we assimilating it? In this respect, are teachers doing something to generate an impact on students?
2. Are we really understanding the reality of students? Remember that today we are educating millenians ....
Very good topic in current scenario of digital teaching and eroding ethical values. Teacher can not be defined only in periphery of school education or formal education.A teacher is one who not only teaches the subject perfectly but also try to inculcate human values of life in pupil. A teacher should be himself first be a good listener and learner. He should keep him updated with subject matter and other current information so that he can update his students regularly.
Nothing is Bad teacher as he is bad is bad teacher means not at all suitable for teaching. Teaching is profession which not to dealt as money earning or fulfilling duty of assigned work for salary. If a person is not himself enjoy the his lectures he can not make students to transfer the points. A teacher should have analysis of topic and not dictating the notes, flexible, generate the curiosity among students and try to their doubts clear. He should have long lasting impact on students mind whatever he taught to students specially those engaged in primary and secondary education where teacher is encyclopedia for student, though in current time we have other options for literature and books. As said all material is available on internet but how to assimilate it, segregate the good one, analyse it , verify it and finally to find utility by understanding will require a experienced person like teacher for a subject. so self study is possible after certain level of basic education which is at least at primary level. unfortunately we least care about those evolving young minds of kids and teachers are not sensible in most of the cases leading to displeasure from the formal education among primary students.

Big question! After 30 years of teaching I hardly define your question! However, I will try to answer, teachers have a message to be educators and good examples. In my field I do not see teachers as good or as bad but quality and example. Can you imagine a teacher educate students to treat obesity and the teacher is obese? So in this situation we do not say good or bad teacher, so this teacher is not qualified to do this job simply he say something different than he do or believe.

What’s the difference between a “good” teacher and a “bad” teacher, between a great learning experience and a bore? Intuitively, we all know the difference. Bad teachers are dull and uninspiring. Their lectures drone on and on, and before long it’s a struggle just to stay awake. I had an English professor once who so inspired me that I spent time in the library expanding my knowledge of the literature we were discussing. Making an “A” in his class was easy. The next semester, I had a professor who was so dull that I had trouble keep my eyes open in his class. Ever since then, I have tried to emulate the great teacher.
Effective teachers are engaging, often entertaining, and fearless. They’ll do just about anything to hold a student’s attention and find a way to drive home an important principle. Even the most highly motivated students learn more, and retain more of what they learn, when they are entertained.
Important points need to be presented in several forms, because everyone has a unique learning style. It’s also entertaining (and thought-provoking) to preview upcoming lectures. For example, we need a drilling fluid that has a very low viscosity when it leaves the drill bit nozzles but has a very high viscosity when it is coming back up the hole to bring up the cuttings. How do we create such a fluid? Stay tuned for tomorrow’s lecture!
Creative teachers often improvise. They know that a simple, 1-minute demonstration with everyday props will sometimes be the catalyst that crystallizes a concept you’ve been discussing for 20 minutes. With a little imagination, a nut on the end of a string becomes the drilling fluid whirling inside a desilter. A rubber band becomes an elastic drill string causing surge and swab pressures – the result of stopping or starting the drill pipe movement too quickly. A tray of sand becomes a beach that illustrates the dilatant behavior of sand. A piece of hard black shale conveys the impermeable nature of shale to go with the electron microscope picture that shows holes in the shale. A stack of paper becomes a clay structure. A torn sheet of paper illustrates how some of the charges are created by disrupting a crystal structure. This is then the pathway to solving the ‘advertising teaser’. A wadded-up sheet of paper is a drilled solid that would clearly disrupt a good filter cake.
