We may doubt about an ESL/EFL teacher's command of the language but at the same time, may question the pedagogic skills of a native speaker. What do you think? Thank you!
It depends on teacher's level of proficiency in English and his/her awareness of and experience with English language teaching. Being native or non-native speaker is not a sufficient criteria for selecting teachers. I know many teachers who can teach Arabic better than me though I am a native speaker of Arabic and they are non-natives.
Does not matter. What is more important is the ability of the teacher to teach, communicate, get through to the student, use examples to convey concepts, be humorous and a passion for teaching.
A native speaker of English is not necessarily a better teacher. I know many non-native English teachers who are way better teachers than the native speakers.
