I was taught to write in 3rd person but I see many reputed journals with published articles written in Ist person also. Therefore I am confused that if I intend to publish in quality journal what is the right way of writing; Ist person or IIIrd Person?
In some cases the journal may tell you in their instructions to authors what they desire. But generally I believe that writing in third person is more professional for a high-level scholarly article.
However, I have written "how to" book chapters in which I used first person, for a more collaborative feel to the text.
In philosophy and religious studies, I usually write in first person. In history, I usually write in third person. If a journal prefers third person, the contributor instructions will almost always say so.
