There is no general answer to this question. It depends on the requirements for the research paper. You should ask these questions to the teacher, examiner, or whoever it is that will grade your research paper.

I believe they are testing your approach to evaluate data and answer the research question with 2 methods in the same dataset. For example you could evaluate in a group of patients whether one group is bigger than the other by doing a simple t-test assuming there is a normal distribution in your data set. But if you have got a skewed distribution you may choose to do a rank test as well or some other non parametric tests such as classifying the sample into a 2 by 2 table. I think it is unlikely that you can use a case study to justify a quantitaive answer. But as Helena said you should get more clarification from your examiner.

Were you told to use a quantitative and a qualitative method to answer the research question? I would think you would have to use the same variables, then explain any similarities or differences. Link them with whatever method works best. Do not use a case study only because you want to. Use it if it makes sense to.

You should ask other students or your instructor to make it clearer though. Good luck.

The Case study is not a method is a reserch design. In a research design such as the Case study you can use different methods for the data collection as well as different analytical methods. I would suggest you to use the same data (it could be quantitative and/or qualitative and/or mixed), for the analysis.

I understand that you are using a mixed-mode design. That is to say the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods.

First, the "variables" should not have the same name in the quantitative component (QUAN) and in the qualitative one (QUAL). In the qualitative component they are less defined, more interconnected and aggregated into categories and themes. If you are performing the two components (QUAN and QUAL), you must connect them to add value to your results. There are three main ways to connect quantitative and qualitative results:

1) Triangulation.- QUAN and QUAL are deployed simultaneously. Then you see if the results converge. Based on the two perspectives you create a "whole" integrating the two perspectives.

2) Exploratory sequential.- You perform QUAL first (more literature review) to produce hypotheses  and then with QUAN tests the hypotheses.

3) Confirmatory sequential. - You review literature first  and then posit your hypotheses. Then do QUAN study to test them. Finally with a QUAL study you can explain better the results obtained.
