While designing fusion proteins, is it okay if I keep start codon in the sequence of second protein ?

While designing the fusion of two proteins, are there any chances that the start codon of the second protein carry out translation independently, leading to formation of only second protein instead of fusion protein?

Or are there any chances of misfolding or formation of inactive protein if I remove the start codon of second protein?
