In short, I would consider a following approach. If you are working towards the academic career (becoming a professor) - the Advisor Name is the most important thing for you. You may want to choose a potential advisor in the first place and not the school.
If you are more into industry - then you may want to find where the companies you are interested in are hiring their personnel. (look at the universities websites about the industry events).
If you are not sure at all - I would go simply with grad schools ranking. They are usually not the worst indicator of the schools quality.
Certainly, the other good thing is to look for what grad students are doing in a particular school and field (do they publish papers? how much? in what journals? conferences?) If you have couple of choices, the best way to do a filter is to find direct opinion about the school from its students.
