Which unit signal strength (aka RSSI) is measured in NS2?

I am getting the RSSI values from mac-802_11.cc file in NS2 but I am not able to calibrate the values to 1m of distance. It could be that the unit in which these values are could be mW, W or dBm? Which unit does NS2 use for RSSI?
