Dear experts,

First, thank you very much to visit my question as an interesting query. As you known better, the literature is saturated with millions of published papers in the specific fields. In my case, I would like to know which types of literature records are valuable to cite in our papers? opinion records? or finding ones? It is a great honor if you can specify your reasons to consider each of these queries based on your research goals.

For example, I found many papers in the field of human nutrition in which the authors cited old-dated papers (for instance in a 2018 paper, another paper that published in 1990 was cited). In such condition, there are conspicuous differences between the past and current diets, and apparently, the existed differences can affect the discussion of these papers in order to draw a lucid conclusion in the related area. Now, this query is very interesting for me to know which types of papers can be reliable for a long time to cite in our manuscripts. And more importantly, which factors can help us to select the best papers to cite?

Again thank you very much for your kind attention, and I am looking forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Kind regards,

Hassan
