I like to learn how researchers estimate cancer prevalence in a country? Searching online, I found a population-based registry recognized as the gold standard for this purpose.
However, the establishment of a population-based cancer registry is costly for LMIC countries.
I like to know any other study design preferred after a population-based registry to estimate certain cancer incidence/ prevalence in a country.

Dear Shariful Islam, Hospital records can be tracked to find the cancer incidence. Certain cancer cases, supported by pathology reports, are proportioned to the total population at risk. The point to be considered here is to prevent duplications due to repetitive visits. Patients diagnosed with cancer through their health insurance records can be used to determine prevalence.

It all depends on what type of data you want to extract, if cancer registry is needed to be developed than Incidence based studies would be wonderful with collecting the data from all cancer hospitals. It will give you an estimate of new cases being developed in a given period of time.

I think you could consider the use of nationally representative datasets from longitudinal cohort studies to study prevalence and patterns. Also, facility-based data can be very promising if there are well-maintained electonic health care records.
