Hello Mila, First I would suggest you narrow down on a particular outcome COVID-19 has on hotels (impact on occupancy, sales, profitability, bank loans, guest ratings, a certain change in operation,...)

Best would be to also pick a certain type of hotel within the hotel industry (Think of classification by ownership (SME!), management type, service level,...)

Then I think you can approach your question from different angles:

• Microeconomics: What does effect XY mean for the individual hotel or chain of hotels?
• Macroeconomics: What does it mean for a country/federal state/destination/city if hotels of a certain type are hit by effect XY?

I am very interested in this topic, there are several factors you should consider when you evaluate how hotels will manage to cope, first the hotel category matters alot, 5 star hotels won't react like how a hostel or small family owned hotel , size of hotel also matters, the country where the hotel is located, all these are factors that will affect how hotel management will behave. I think large hotels will focus on branding the hygiene and disinfection regulations to gain customers trust , i just finished a newspaper article suggesting that travelers would prefer to stay in an airbnb rather a hotel because it would be less risky than a big hotel where alot of guests and staff are present and the probability of being infected is higher than an airbnb apartment.
