I have one independent variable (Gender) with two levels; males and female and one dependent variable which is psychological well-being that will be measured using the DASS-21. The DASS-21 measures three variable; depression, anxiety and stress. Would like to know what statistical test is appropriate. Thank you.
You could run three independent t-tests with gender as IV and DASS-21 as outcomes. I would correct the multiple analysis using a bonferonni correction (divide .05 by three to set you alpha level).
Or, even better, I would run a one-way MANOVA (Hotelling's analysis) with gender as the IV and the three sub-scales as the dependent variable composite. Also, I am not sure I would call the DV well-being as these constructs measure psychological distress, and research has shown that the presence of pathology does not necessarily mean the absence of well-being.

Perhaps I don't quite understand-Gender can't be manipulated ; only identified, and so it's not an "independent variable" in the traditional sense. I believe; you are dealing with a correlational study, in which you are seeking to ascertain the association between gender and its association with anxiety, stress and depression.

In response to your question, I should say that it seems that you are dealing with a problem in which there is a qualitative (categorical) variable (as your independent) and a quantitative variable (as your dependent or response variable). As your interested in correlation between these two variables, you could find a lot of information about the degree of association between these two variables by fitting a logistic regression relating the Gender to your dependent variable which is continues. As a result, fitting such a regression can provide further information about one unit increase in average of the dependent variable due to some (you could find) switching in categories of the independent variable (gender).
