Hi Hafiz Salami , it depends on the size of the lake you are studying and scale of the organisms you are using as indicator of ecological state. I would suggest you to look for review papers on this subject or special issues of journals like Remote Sensing https://www.mdpi.com/journal/remotesensing/special_issues

Dear Hafiz Salami , as already mentioned the resolution depends upon your area of interest while you have to take into considertion some other factors such as availability and continuty of Remote sensing data.

For your work i would suggest to use open-access Sentinel-2 data with 10m resolution. However, many reserachers have used Landsat 8, 7 and even Landsat 5 for ecological analysis of lakes.

Examples of these are , the Landsat (TM, ETM+, OLI), ASTER (LIB, LIT), Sentinel-2, etc.
