I bought commercial biosurfactants ( Surfactin and Iturin A) which are the product of Bacillus sabtilis. The product is in powder form. I know that biosurfactants cannot be dessolved in common buffers. my targate is to test their efficacy and molecular mode of action against insect. therefore, please guide me which solvent is suitable to dissolve these biosurfactants as well as no effect on insect normal physiology.

Are you interested in dissolving surfactin and Iturin A? First find out if surfactin or Iturin A is soluble in water otherwise check the solvents used for their extraction. They should normally re-dissolve in those solvents or solvent mixtures.

I found on the product container bottle saying it is soluble in Ethanol. But Ethanol itself affect insect immunity and I felt unconfortable to dissolve in ethanol. That is why I am searching other safe solvents.
Lipopeptides are generally soluble in water. Surfactin is an acid, so its solubility depends on pH. In pure water, surfactin solubility does not exceed 10 mg/ml. By controlling pH, its solubility will slightly increase. Addition of organic solvents such as methanol or ethanol may also increase solubility.
