Purposive sampling is to recruit a sample based on criteria. Convenience sampling is to recruit anyone. These two techniques are different.
About reporting, it is not about whether you can or cannot say, but say based on what you have done.

If your quantitative survey had eligibility criteria, it was more than a convenience sample. As for the qualitative sample, it certainly could have its own separate criteria, and if you did indeed search for extreme cases, then that would be an appropriate label.
