I am reading the paper "Analysis of Dual-Carrier Modulator for Bidirectional Noninverting Buck–Boost Converter" by Ilan Aharon et al and one question comes up.

As you can see from the attached picture, a symmetrical triangle waveform is used as modulation signal in the paper.

So is there any reason for using triangle waveform rather than sawtooth or ramp for modulation? Or what are the advantages or disadvantages of each one?

For duty cycle, I don't see any difference among these modulation signal. They all works in theory but I am not sure the side effect of each type.
