I added a material in HFSS as a ferrite material, as I know in HFSS magnetic saturation must be non-zero. But my question is that how much other properties are important? for example, I changed the Relative permeability from 0 to 1000 but it did not change the results, while when we define permeability 1, it means vacuum and it should be different with permeability 1000.
Which results didn't it change?
Values of 0 and 1000 will both result in a big reflection of waves at an air boundary, and very small electric fields in the material.
Malcolm White sorry I mean between 1 and 1000. I measure the voltage at the output ports (which defined as lumped ports). relative permeability of 1 means vacuum, and relative permeability 1000 is like ferrite, but the change was so small and negligible. I wanna know that to simulating a ferrite material which properties are important ? also, when I put the magnetic saturation non-zero, how much the magnetic bias should be?
The magnetic saturation is the level of magnetic flux above which the relative permeability returns to 1. If the flux density reaches much above this flux level in your simulation then the relative permeability will look like 1.
The relative permeability is very important, but so is the saturation. If you want the relative permeability to be the one you chose then you need the flux density to remain below the saturation during your entire simulation, everywhere.
The imaginary part of the relative permeability determines how lossy the magnetic material is, for cyclic signals. The imaginary part is the real part times the loss tangent, or loss factor. They are all important , but in different ways. If the loss is small you can leave out the imaginary part and the rest of the results won't change much. If the field never goes above saturation it doesn't matter how high the saturation flux density is, so long as it is high enough. The relative permeability must be right.
Malcolm White thank you for your answer. The particle that I want to simulate, has these properties in real experiment, relative permeability close to 1 (1.0001), and it wont reach to magnetic saturation point. I want to simulate it. In the other words , I have a linear isotropic magnetic material, with permeability 1.001 and I want to see how it changes the field and the output voltage, when I put it in the sensor (which contains two parallel coils )
Your material will only make a very small difference to the field. It is so close to air or vacuum that it will be hard to find the difference. If there was only vacuum and the material replaces all the vacuum, the flux will be 0.01% higher. If it doesn't replace all the vacuum then the change will be even smaller.
