Dear Malika Eman, As a programmer, you will be expected to be proficient in at least one the language like Java or C++. However, you can always choose to other language that excites you intellectually keeping in mind that PHP, Python and Ruby are also very much exciting and useful in some situations of software development. So, Malika I will not go for a single programming language which we can say as a beneficial language in general context of software development.

Dear Malika Eman, it depends on the application in many situations and the compatibility. It seems you have already learned C, C++ and C#. You can easily try to learn java and Python.

There is no single language that will work best for every situation. There have been several attempts to create one, but without much success. IBM introduced PL/1 in the late 1960s/early 1970s, which attempted to combine the scientific programming capabilities of Fortran with the business application capability of COBOL. It also introduced some other concepts, but never got wide acceptance.

Academics tried to create the 'perfect' language, Algol68, which allowed for programming purity, but was hard to implement a compiler and without a compiler you cannot have acceptance.

The US Dept of Defense tried in the mid-1980s to solve it's maintenance problem (it had applications written in 10s of languages) by designing and forcing new development to use Ada. While that mandate is still on the books, it is not enforced as it once was.

Languages become 'the flavor of the week'. C was an operating system level language that was used in many other applications. Pascal was a teaching language that grew into the commercial market (and was supplanted by C). The thing to remember is that anyone that argues that any one particular language should be used for all problems is similar to a person who has only a hammer as a tool - and therefore everything else is seen as a nail.

I would highly recommend reading the seminal paper "An empirical comparison of seven programming languages" written by Prechelt, L. and published in Computer (IEEE) in 2000. While the paper is over a dozen years old, it provides a meaningful framework for examining the tradeoffs between different programming languages.

As far as, my thinking approach JAVA is the Very Beneficial language. As we know Demand for Java engineers is exceptionally high...and The top of the Best Language of the Year 2013. its fully Object Oriented language.

Domain application requirements and design needs are the two best guidelines to help in such choice. Every language has a commitment with a problem solving paradigm in terms of semantic richness and expression power. So this choice depends on several factors. As i usually say: The right programming language for the right problem solving solution space.

Dear Malika Eman, You are correct that the demand for Java Engineers are high, This is also true that this trend is prevailing since many years. In my opinion; There are two reasons for that: 1. Engineers are required for maintaining the Java based systems. 2. Java based software ideas in the forms of sub-systems are quite often available. However, in my previous response I put Java on top. Malika, Java is the preferred language of hiring today. Having just been unemployed for 10 weeks this past summer, my lack of Java knowledge eliminated ~33% of the jobs I could apply for. Similarly, my lack of knowledge of .NET and C# precluded me from working in any shop that was heavily centered around the Microsoft platform even though they didn't use Java. One thing to consider, the software field has many grey hairs (older folks) working on the 'plumbing' of systems - OS/System level stuff. As these folks retire/leave, who will be there to support the infrastructure. It's all well and good to learn today's shiny new toy, but remember that the JVM you use is *not* written in Java - but in something else, Java is but an application level language.

Hi Malika, it is very hard to say that there is one programming language that is best for any task. If you are interesting in which languages are popular on the internet you can have a look at the TIOBE index (http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html). This one shows that C is still in front of Java.

I think there is only one reason why there is so much software written in Java. There is a good lobby out there which pushed Java after its conception and many universities adapted it because it looked like a promising object oriented language. After a while many students could only write Java software and so companies adapted to that (all still being in the hype that Java is superior to other languages). Now, a lot of software is already legacy software written in Java and it is not possible to turn away from this. Since companies still need a lot of Java programmers universities still teach Java. At first, Java seemed to be a good idea because it was platform independent, but I really don't like its low performance. In my opinion it only makes sense in server applications, but please don't use it for GUI applications. (Every Java application I have used uses too much memory and slow down the entire computer. And that is even true with 8GB of RAM.)

Instead, I prefer C++. With the right libraries (I use Boost and Qt) it is also almost platform independent. You just need to recompile for every operating system. I also like that it is a multi-paradigm language. You do not have to stick to just object oriented programming. Just use one of the paradigms that expresses your ideas best. Being a multi-paradigm language makes learning C++ hard: There is no single right way how to do things.

I also like to add how I prefer to categorize languages. For me there are only imperative and declarative programming languages. Declarative means that you tell the computer what to compute, but not the exact steps how to do it (that would be imperative). In that sense functional programming is one way of being declarative. Logic programming is just another way. SQL is also declarative, which does not fully qualify as a functional language. But why did I not include object oriented into these categories? To me OO programming just tells you that you have objects and messages. Usually, message are implemented as method calls. But, OO is really orthogonal to the imperative/declarative categories. Most languages use imperative programming for the implementation of methods. Scala on the other hand uses functional programming for this. There is no reason why you shouldn't combine logic programming with OO. Furthermore, there is one more category to add to this. There is also generative programming, but there is no language that uses only this single paradigm.

As I already said, C++ is a multi-paradigm language. Most people only see it as an OO language (it added classes to C). But, there is a lot more to it. You can use a plain imperative/procedural programming style writing just functions (I always thought that it does not make sense to have functions like sin or abs inside of classes). You have generative programming through templates. Furthermore, you should also know about functional programming because template meta programming actually is functional. And nothing stops you from using a functional programming style in your regular code. There are several libraries that try to mimick certain functional languages. But already the STL included the "functional" header file right from the beginning. I know of no other language (other than D that is derived from C++) who supports these many paradigm within the language. There are certainly ways to write true procedural code in Java (just make everything static) or object oriented in C (have a look at the GTK library). But, this programming style is not enforced by the language itself.

Still, this does not make C++ a silver bullet. Especially since it takes a really long time to master C++ and become an expert in it.

You can see how the preferences about languages changes over the time. For example, C is the top language today, but during some years was Java. Python and C++ are losting popularity, and so on. About Java, for example, firefox and chrome are stopping supporting Java, because of the chaotical and continuous appearance of new versions who makes everybody crazy.

Dear Ms Malika Eman, Any language of 4th generation is quite good for software development.

It depends on the nature of Software which is being developed so it is difficult to recommend the Language with knowing the Requirements of Software/Application

I am using vb.net and c#.net for windows and web application

If you target is efficiency , you must use a fully compiled language ( such as C/C++ and exclude Java ).Also since Java does not have direct access to assembly language , you can not use all of the x86 processor abilities ( such as SIMD , SSE , ...) .But if you target is code readability and developement speed you must use programming languages such as Java , Python , ....

To me it's very important to write an efficient software for intel platform

Programming language is variable with your objectives of your goal. So, at first fix your objective and then try to know corresponding programming language for your objectives.
