Research suggests that authoritative parenting is best in western cultures because it displays both warmth and structure--both of which are important to raising happy, healthy, children. There is no theoretical reason that parents should maintain the same parenting styles, but I do not know if any longitudinal studies have been conducted.

Although parenting is one of the very well-studied areas in psychology, findings about the association between parenting styles and positive child outcomes are inconclusive. Authoritative parenting is consistently indicated as an effective style in producing competent, confident and stable children in the West. But some studies indicated that authoritarian is an effective style in Chinese culture. I think balancing demandingness and warmth is very important in raising responsible children. It is good to consider the cultural context.
Now-a-days a lot emphasis is given on how to parent a child, which type of tricks and techniques parents should use while rearing their children. Rather directly saying 'no' parents also provide justified answers to their questions which ultimately develops understanding to fight with diverse situations and enrich them with the skills like problem solving, decision making etc.
Authoritative parenting style, as implicated in the studies, is the best style to be adopted by parents. It gives the children a profound sense of balance. But a parent may not be able to stick to one parenting style. A lot of external factors, directly or indirectly, affect the subconscious decision to adopt a particular parenting style. There may be cultural biases, circumstantial crises within the family or change in the child's behaviour that make one take up some other style.
