Every one having different orientation about their research or teaching. However, research and teaching are both having its own advantages and importance. Share your views intended to the asked question. Regards
Both are important in their own way. While it is possible to teach new ways of doing research, it is also very possible to research new ways of teaching. research is seeking new knowledge while teaching is imparting new knowledge.
Both are important in fulfilling the mission of the university. However, when it comes to promotion, greater weight is given to research than to teaching.
In residency programme in our post graduate medical university, research is a part of the ciriculum for the students. Besides teaching and research, the teachers in clinical subjects are involved in patients care, both inside and outside of the University. So the bulk majority of the research done in clinical subjects are related to students thesis papers, which as a matter of fact is a part of Whole teaching. .
So the teaching is dominant and important than research in clinical subjects of our university. And I am not an exception.
Both are intricately linked and at the tertiary level, necessary. Teaching is under girded by research and you must be part of the equation especially in your area of expertise. There is nothing quite exciting like exploring novel research that can inform practice.
Chowdhury/Chaudhury Meshkat Ahmed Amer Hamed Suliman Oswell Namasasu Abdullah Sikar Al-Issawi Rohana Syamsuddin Thank you for participating in discussion. Regards
Your research should enhance your teaching, as you are bringing cutting edge knowledge to the classroom. At my university, both are required for promotion and tenure.
I agree with Halmat Faieeq D Mahmood that both, research and teaching, are important. I also agree with Adita Maharaj and Abdullah Sikar Al-Issawi that research and teaching are clearly connected. When applying reseach-teaching nexus, doing research is giving new insights for teaching, and teaching is giving new insights for research,
Uma Nath Shukla, if you design your courses for both teaching and research, they may serve the same purpose. I develop my courses for both purposes and at the final stage, I assess the whole elements of my plan. This fosters our (my students and me) reflective thinking abilities.
Teaching is a talent , not all researcher are good talented teachers , teacher if he is competent can transfer the knowledge that he obtained through his own research, as well he can transfer thoughts and ideas from other researche. I strongly believe that is a researcher should improve his teaching skills if he needs to teach .
Both research and teaching are important in University/college. They are related with each other. By teaching the theory or concept of any field, we can get the knowledge or insightful thought in order to conduct the research that we want to do.
Zin Myo Swe S J Malik Abdul Hei Edward Kahiga Anjna Devi Adita Maharaj Thank you all for participating in the discussion, obviously both are important for shaping of students. Regards
dear Uma Nath Shukla Getting already good replies on "Which one is more Important Research or Teaching or both", and i think both are interconnected and both are necessary.
First, we study about the concepts and principles of any of the scientific know-how by the means of teaching...it's four wall system as it comes under formal education...
Then we test or study those principles and applications on field or grass root level so as to get answer of a problem by conducting trial or experiments in question...it is informal eduction, we can say...then will find extension that is any kind of eduction which is usually stretched out in the rural area beyond of the limits of educational institution or formal eduction, called non formal education..means that research finding which show social benefits, may be recommended to ensure happiness among the people...
both are important but what makes research special is the fact that it leads to a better comprehension and thus it turns to be a special way of teaching
Both are very important. It is well known inside the major research-led universities but perhaps less well known outside, that the status of research is higher than that of teaching. In most universities like Cambridge, academic appointment, tenure, promotion and general reputation are dominated by research output. It is quite possible to have a glittering career in which you produce lots of prestigious research but are a not-so-good teacher. However, both teaching and research are important https://www.simontaylorsblog.com/2012/03/14/teaching-versus-research/
Research is teaching preparation. Effective teaching requires lecturers to stay on top of their research. https://www.timeshighereducation.com/blog/research-teaching-preparation
Both are important, however research may have an upper hand to teaching. A teacher needs research in order for him or her to teach a particular subject matter
Teaching is the transfer / enablement of knowledge taking students to the next level in academics. This maintains and improves the pool of human resources required.
Research involves analysis with scientific temper, leading to newer developments, change of practice, etc. This is essential for progress and better outcome.
Depending on the context, both play important roles. Fundamentally both rely on a sound understanding of basic principles. Hence, the importance / relevance is based on the individual and the setting.
It depends on your job description. If you are lecturer you can do both. If you are a researcher in a certain institution, you might not have the opportunity to teach. Also when you are a teacher you might miss the funds for research and not be able to research.
Both are important. Research will enhance our practical teaching abilities so that students can easily grab the contents. They can frame new experiments according to their own views. We can learn more learning by doing. @ uma nath Shukla
Both areas of activity of university research and teaching staff are important and can complement each other, etc. The results of conducted research may be used in the framework of conducted education. On the other hand, students who write their diploma theses can also conduct research.
Both teaching and research are essential for growth and development of knowledge but teaching should preferred over resesrch if student - teacher ratio is poor.
