I agree more research is needed on social-media based messaging around HPV vaccination. I have not seen specific research on this question, although parental belief about the vaccine is a large predictor of vaccination and there have been many successful community outreach attempts I have not seen as many social media campaigns yet. I am happy to discuss possible strategies.
Courtney, are you looking for planning models or health behavior theory? For a planning model, consider social marketing (also called public health marketing) that uses formative research to identify barriers and motivators to a desired behavior and then uses commercial marketing concepts like products/services, pricing, distribution, and promotion to develop behavior change strategies. For health behavior models I'm wondering if the health belief model would be appropriate given that it considers perceived susceptibility? Do members of the target population see themselves as being at risk?
I personally recommend Neman's system theory as a conceptual frame work for such a valuable research question that could be expandable to secondary and terrariey level.
Thank you all for your suggestions and information regarding theorists that could provide a theoretical framework for this project. This area of research an implementation remain very needed in my geographical area.
