While doing one experiment for my project student, some of the microbial colonies showed purple to violet color, and some of them were white to pale yellow in nature, since i have a doubt over it, what it would be?
There are more than one species which will show you similar colors on their growth. you cannot identify a species on its color alone so I recommend you to go for complete morphology and biochemical tests, then only you will get an idea about the species.
It is not possible to identify microorganismus acoording to color production or color of their colonies. There exist many various species producing same or nearly the same colors. That is why necessary to perform serious identification using biochemical testing or PCR and so on. Only serious testing can give you answer to your question.
Apart from Chromobacterium, it might belong to any actinobacterial members those are pioneers in producing water soluble diffusible pigments of varying color. The color production is greatly enhanced by the physiological state of the growth like salt conc, pH and mostly temperature. Low temperature can up-regulate it in microbes.
Thank you so much for all of your wonderful shares of your views. it will give a hope towards the move. Will be back to you if came up with doubts,,,,,
