There are different methods used in the literature to obtain the load-end shortening curve of the axially compressed cylindrical shell. These are Riks method, Explicit Dynamics, and Artificial damping. The maximum load obtained using the three methods is the same, but the behavior using Riks method is different than the others for cases of imperfect shells. So, which one is is preferred for cases of geometrically and material nonlinear analysis with imperfections.
