What kind of materials are best suited for the membrane? For commercial wastewater treatment plant, which kinds of the membrane is generally used and why? Also, which membrane is more suitable for the backflush process that can ensure the longevity of the membrane.
If just talking about HFM, PVDF is mostly used in MBR because of the balance between chemical resistance and mechanical strength, and the price is relatively low, thanks to the total manufacturing amount.
If you thinks the anti-fouling is most important, maybe you can also consider PTFE HFM, but it's more expensive at this moment.
Thanks Yaxin Liu for the information. Do you believe that to control fouling, the surface of the membrane can be made more positive due to the fact that microbes have negative surface charge, and hence can produce neutral surface to provide less frequent fouling?
