In a followup question to what was previously asked, which of the following would you recommend for analysis and performing design checks on 3D frames:
There are major differences between SAP2000 (or Etabs), STAAD and RISA 3d and also each one has its own limitations. Therefore, it is better to choose the a software according to type of the structure and more detailed information and target of your project. For example, RISA 3D has more drawing capabilities than SAP2000.
It's recommended to see the following links for diffrenece between STAAD and RISA 3d
STAAD is simple and extremely user friendly. It is the basic software for frame structures, and with some modules / macros for NDCTs, etc. The best part is, Input file, which is as good as English Story, sequential, and easily understandable. Interface with Design module is also good. However, drawing capabilities are bare minimum or negligible. As one goes for refined / sophisticated analysis, other software are better. Most engineering colleges are teaching STAAD, thus, freshers are comfortable with this. A few colleges started teaching SAP2000 / ETABS, which have better facilities compared to STAAD.
