It will depend on your downstream application. 2 examples,

RIPA buffers are good, but you will pull different amounts of protein from the nucleus/DNA bound based on your salt concentration (which will be nice for westerns).

A CHAPS buffer is a mild buffer than can maintain some enzymatic activity (don't expect too much nuclear proteins though).
