Needless to say , it is water if scientists come up with an efficient cost-effective closed-cycle process. In such process, water will be a reactant in one step (or more than one step) & hydrogen will be a product in one step (or more than one step).

Hydrogen production is the family of industrial methods for generating hydrogen gas. As of Considering the industrial production of hydrogen, and using current best processes for water electrolysis amount of electric power, the materials are stable and not combustible, and they do not generate hydrogen until mixed.

The best cheap material for hydrogen production is water by electrolytic method.
