While I was studying the histology of the amygdaloid complex, I found what seems to be reactive gliosis (thionin and HE labelling) but, to be sure, I would try some specific immunohistochemical (or histological) techniques. Any suggestions (apart from the GFAP)?
Have you considered looking at microglial markers as well? Lectins, ED-1, for example? Good luck!

1. A2B5, a glial progenitor marker. A2B5 expression is considered a marker for various cancers, including astrocytoma, glioma, and squamous cell carcinoma.
2. O1 and O4 for oligodendrocyte marker
3. HES-1 (Hairy 1) and Notch1 for early astrocyte differentiation

4. Non-selenium Glutathione Peroxidase (NSGP), Glutamine Synthetase or Glutamine Synthetase for astrocytes (http://www.millipore.com/techpublications/tech2/glial_markers)

2.Microglia, activated [Macrophages; late state inflammatory]
