I want to isolate bacterial culture for enzyme production. I want to retard the growth of the fungus in media . Which is the best anti-fungal antibiotic which can be used in the media?
Amphotericin B is usually used for cell cultures but to isolate bacteria i suggest cycloheximide. Its commonly used in microbial media to suppress fungal growth.
Amphotericin B as well as Cyclohexamide both I have used and they worked well for me. But sometime we used more quantity (>50 ng/100 mL) to avoid fungal contamination.
I recommend use of Bavistin for general purpose.....For isolation, use of Cyclohexamide works satisfactory. Concentration can be adjusted depending on source and type of sample.
I also recommend Fungizone, it works with embryo/cell culture media. You may find useful this tool to select the right antibiotic. http://www.labtools.us/antibiotic-selector/
