Hello, I am conducting a research on to building a RF direction finder and I need a program that is user friendly and to be used for both antenna design and simulation.
Konstantin Dimitrov You can try out 4NEC2 which is free and has a spreadsheet like input sheet. It use a wire model, comes with plenty of examples and displays radiation patterns and near-field strengths. There is an optimiser tool too.
Suggest you check out the NEC2 (Numerical Electromagnetics Code) history even if you may go for other tools.
Dear Konstantin Dimitrov, I agree with Shiv Prasad Tripathy that for wire design of antenna the easier solution will be NEC 2 or MMANA (the evolving of NEC2). As an example of using MMANA you can see this conference paper:

On the other hand, if you need to investigate non-wire antennas the better way will be to use HFSS, CST etc.
Free 4NEC is not even close to user friendly.
I prefer Free FDTD OpenEMS, because anything written in Octave/Matlab is very comprehensible.
Antenna Magus, a wizard for small businesses should be very friendly.
Antenna toolkit for HFSS is a collection of designs for VEEERY expensive simulator.
